Xequerê, commonly known in English as a Shekere, is a traditional percussion instrument with a deep, textured and expressive sound. It is made from a natural gourd surrounded by a dense net of colorful beads. As the instrument moves, the beads strike and slide across the gourd to create layers of soft rattling, crisp accents and powerful rhythmic texture.

How can the Xequerê be played?

Hold the instrument by the neck and move it rhythmically so the bead net strikes the surface of the gourd.
